Lauri Perdue Named Chairwoman of the LVGEA Board of Directors

LVGEA Also Welcomes Four New Board Members

The Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance (LVGEA) proudly welcomes Lauri Perdue, national workforce director for University of Phoenix, as the new chairwoman of the LVGEA Board of Directors after serving as vice chair since January 2023. With more than 25 years of experience in higher education and workforce development, Perdue’s leadership will play a pivotal role in advancing LVGEA’s mission to drive economic growth and diversification in Southern Nevada.

“I am honored to serve as Chair of the LVGEA Board of Directors for the next two years,” said Perdue. “I have some big goals and priorities for the LVGEA Board for the upcoming year, including overseeing the national search for a new CEO, strengthening board engagement and impact, driving alignment on strategic goals, supporting regional priorities, and laying the foundation for long-term success for the organization.”

Perdue brings a robust background in higher education, workforce development, consulting, and organizational leadership. At University of Phoenix, she collaborates with companies nationwide to design programs and solutions that support career pathways for students and alumni and align with employer talent acquisition. Her dedication to workforce development aligns closely with LVGEA’s mission to strengthen the region’s economy by cultivating talent pipelines and fostering business collaboration.

“Lauri’s proven leadership in workforce development, community engagement, and higher education positions her perfectly to lead our board at this critical time,” said Betsy Fretwell, interim CEO of LVGEA. “Her deep understanding of creating career pathways and advancing community collaboration will help us tackle some of the region’s most pressing challenges. Under her guidance, we are confident that LVGEA will continue to chart a path toward sustainable growth and innovation.”

New Board Members

LVGEA also welcomes four new members to serve on the LVGEA Board of Directors, a diverse group of public and private sector leaders that are passionate about creating a brighter future for all Southern Nevadans.

Recently elected mayor of Las VegasShelley Berkley brings an impressive legacy of public service, including seven terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. A champion of healthcare reform and economic development, Berkley’s accomplishments include but are not limited to securing funding for the VA medical complex in Southern Nevada and advocating for expanded medical education programs.

Prior to her political career, Berkley served on the Nevada State Board of Regents and held leadership roles in the private sector, including as Senior Vice President of the Touro University system. Her lifelong dedication to Southern Nevada is reflected in her efforts to improve the quality of life and create economic opportunities for the region.

“The LVGEA is so vital to the economic future of Southern Nevada,” said Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley. “This is why I’m especially happy to rejoin the board to help support its mission. I had previously served on this board in my former capacity at Touro University and know firsthand the important role the LVGEA plays.”

With nearly three decades of public service, Stephanie Garcia-Vause has been a driving force behind the City of Henderson’s community development and strategic planning efforts. As assistant city manager since 2018, and recently appointed city manager in 2025, Garcia-Vause has overseen various departments, including Communications and Public Safety, and established the Office of Education to address community needs.

Her leadership has been pivotal in securing funding for parks and trails, legislative initiatives, and development projects like West Henderson’s expansion. A Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners, Garcia-Vause has been recognized for her exceptional contributions to urban planning and community development.

“I am honored to join the LVGEA and work with community leaders who share the same vision, to drive Southern Nevada’s economy forward ensuring a future full of opportunities for our vibrant community,” said Garcia-Vause.

Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones has spent his career championing critical issues such as behavioral health, economic diversification, and environmental conservation. Serving as chair of the Regional Transportation Commission and Regional Flood Control District, Jones plays a pivotal role in addressing infrastructure and sustainability needs across Southern Nevada.

An attorney by profession and former Nevada state senator, Jones has dedicated his life to improving his community through leadership and policy. His commitment extends to nonprofit boards and youth advocacy.

“I am thrilled to rejoin the LVGEA Board of Directors and continue supporting the vital work of economic development in Southern Nevada,” said Jones. “Having previously served on the board, I’ve seen firsthand the transformative impact LVGEA has on our community—creating jobs, attracting businesses, and fostering innovation. I look forward to collaborating with the talented team and board members to build on this momentum and ensure our region remains a hub for opportunity and growth. Together, we can strengthen our economy and improve the quality of life for all residents. Additionally, as a Commissioner representing Las Vegas Chinatown, an international destination for both tourists and locals, I understand the importance of cultivating diverse and dynamic economic opportunities. I look forward to bringing this perspective to my role on the board and working collaboratively to ensure our region continues to thrive as a hub for innovation, culture, and inclusive growth.”

DeAndre Esteen is Vice President, Contact Center Site Coordinator at Barclays Bank US, overseeing citizenship initiatives, volunteer programs, and strategic partnerships on the Henderson campus. Esteen’s previous roles include director of development at The Shade Tree, where he supported vulnerable populations.

A champion for diversity, equity, and inclusion, Esteen chairs Barclays’ Henderson DE&I Council and serves on boards for organizations such as the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Foundation and Tech Impact. Recognized for his community activism, Esteen is also a dedicated youth coach and mentor.

“I am beyond words that I have the opportunity to join forces with so many distinguished community leaders representing the LVGEA,” said Esteen. “It is an exciting honor, and I will do my very best to work for the betterment of our community.”
